Dr Eugene Chung

Dr Eugene Chung MBBS, BSc (Hons), MSc, FRACS, FAOrthA is an Australian and internationally trained Orthopaedic Surgeon, with subspecialty interests in hip and knee replacements, knee surgery including anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and orthopaedic trauma in children and adults. He lives in the Southern Highlands with his wife and children.

Born and raised in rural Canada, Eugene completed a Bachelor of Science Honours degree, followed by a Masters of Science in Anatomy and Cell Biology at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. He then moved to Australia to pursue his medical career. After graduating from Sydney University’s School of Medicine, Dr Chung undertook his surgical training throughout NSW, Queensland and the ACT. He was awarded his Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and the Australian Orthopaedic Association (FAOrthoA) in 2020.

After obtaining his Fellowship, Dr Chung developed further expertise in both adult and paediatric orthopaedic trauma surgery while working as the Orthopaedic Trauma Fellow at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney. He was then selected for the prestigious international Fellowship in Lower Limb Reconstruction at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto, Canada. 

Under the tutelage of Drs Drs Alan Gross and David Backstein, he specialized in complex primary and revision hip and knee replacements, trauma and short stay arthroplasty.

Upon returning to Australia, he has worked as a locum Orthopaedic Surgeon at Nepean Hospital in Sydney and Bowral and District Hospital in the Southern Highlands.

Dr Chung uses the latest evidence and techniques in orthopaedic surgery while maintaining a patient centered model of care in treating his patients to ensure the best outcome, whether it is surgical or non-operative management. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking for his wife and daughters, and staying fit either outdoors on the bike trails or at the gym. He is delighted to be joining Dr Nick Hartnell in Bowral to provide the best quality orthopaedic care in the beautiful Southern Highlands and surrounding regions.
